In My Neighborhood: An Evening at Antropologie with Grace Bonney – Design*Sponge

3rd Oct 2011

Grace Bonney founder of Design*Sponge & Me

On Saturday evening I headed out to Antropologie to a book signing for Grace Bonney’s new home design book aptly named Design*Sponge at Home.  Of course having the quirky backdrop of our new Antropologie store on South Granville was the perfect location to host such an event!

Highlights of the evening were the yummy cranberry & champagne cocktails being served alongside mini cupcakes and an adorable pink icing with chocolate cake in the shape of dog.  I was on a bit of a sugar overload by the end but couldn’t help myself!

Photobooth Time!

I had never been to a book signing before and I was a bit surprised that Grace didn’t formally address the guests in attendance, maybe she had during the crafting event held before or maybe this is standard form?  I must admit I had been excited to hear a little bit about her book and maybe something about her successful design blog.  I did attempt to have a small chat with her when she signed my book, but it was pretty quick, but  she was kind enough to let me take a photo with her – FYI she’s tiny like me!

After having my book signed I posed in the photobooth solo – yes I went sans date, but being on my own gave me an excuse to hide behind my camera and fire off a few shots.  Everyone in attendance was dressed in the cutest outfits and one girl even brought her Jack Russel terrier who was wearing a red patterned bow-tie – he looked very handsome.

All in all it was a nice evening out, and realize I need to work on my mingling skills so I can actually meet some of these funky people living here in Vancouver – I’m a work in progress!

Check out Grace’s blog Design* Sponge for more book tour dates.

  1. Looks good! How many of those champagne drinks did you have?

  2. Cute dress Brandy.
At the book signing events that I have been to, the author did speak about their books and even read from the book, but those were novelists, so it may be different for a non-fiction book. Looks like you had a good time!
