Weekend at The Empress

"The Empress'

This past weekend I went over by ferry to see my Mom in Victoria – she was there for the Canadian Figure Skating Competition going on.  We stayed at the wonderfully old and kind of creepy Empress Hotel which I loved.

Our room had these amazing floral green curtains and 15 foot ceilings with incredible design details that included crown moldings and lots of big patterns working together that created an old world space.  When I walked through the hotel I had this feeling of ghosts following me around because there are old portraits hanging on the walls with chairs sitting below – as if the people in the portrait were expecting guests.

In grand tradition my Mom, her skating pal Traci and I decided to partake in the famous ritual of afternoon tea in The Tea Lobby which has hosted the Queen of England before – apparently she sat near the fireplace which was occupied by a group of girlfriends who wore cute hats and giggled a lot.  It was a great afternoon of indulging in finger sandwiches, scones with whipped butter and of course the tea with my Mom.

Thanks Mom for the weekend away!
